ScanTopUp help
Setup guidance, troubleshooting and answers to common questions about ScanTopUp.
Getting started
- Install ScanTopUp on your Android phone.
- Allow camera access when asked — the camera is only used to read the PIN on your scratch card.
- Choose your country and carrier in Settings. If your network is not listed, add it as a custom operator with its recharge short code.
- Point the camera at the scratch panel, keep the phone steady and tap Scan & Recharge.
- Check the code shown in your dialer, then press Call to complete the recharge.
Troubleshooting
The PIN is not detected.
Make sure the scratch panel is fully scratched off and centred in the frame. Turn the torch on in low light, hold the phone steady and avoid glare. You can also type or paste the PIN manually.
The dialer shows the wrong recharge code.
Check that the correct country and carrier are selected in Settings. Recharge code formats differ between networks.
The camera preview is black.
Check that ScanTopUp has camera permission in your phone's Settings › Apps › ScanTopUp › Permissions, then reopen the app.
Frequently asked questions
Does ScanTopUp charge me or handle my money?
No. ScanTopUp does not process payments. It reads the PIN from a scratch card you already own and prepares your network's standard recharge code. Your mobile network performs the recharge when you press Call.
Does ScanTopUp dial automatically?
No. It opens your phone's dialer with the code filled in. Nothing is dialled until you press Call.
Which networks are supported?
Econet, NetOne and Telecel in Zimbabwe are built in. For other networks you can add your own operator name and recharge short code.
Where is my recharge history stored?
On your phone. You can protect it with a PIN of 4 to 8 digits.
